Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV 20.2 MP Digital Still Camera, Customer Reviews :
Excellent Images
Compared to my RX100ii the images produced by the new RX100iv are fantastic, especially for this size of camera. Viewing on a 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display the IQ is awesome. I wont go into all the technical aspects as there are lots of other references available. From a critical user perspective this camera delivers on all fronts. Sure you can get better quality if you are prepared to sacrifice the pocket-ability size of this camera. I sold off my Nikon D800 a while ago and purchased the RX1 so I have some good reference points to base my opinion.
I have done side by side comparisons with my brothers Panasonic LX100, my Sony RX1 (not a fair comparison but I had to have a high reference point) & my RX100ii. For video the Panasonic wins for me (Mac friendly & the colors seem to pop) but when it comes to IQ, EVF and size, the RX100iv wins hands-down over the Panasonic & RX100ii.
If you are looking to upgrade from the RX100iii or Panasonic LX100 then its probably not worth it. I love the new RX100iv & for its size nothing out there delivers so much bang for the buck. For me its a winner.

Unsurpassed specs and performance in a P&S compact camera
The RX100M IV is disruptive technology, in a good sense, with unsurpassed specs and performance that matches the specs. Based on some of the reviews that are less than 5 stars, one could infer that either (i) the reviewer thought s/he had bought a Sony RX10M II... no, you'll have to wait until August for that model, or (ii) no manual came with the RX100M IV that recites what the camera can and cannot do. It has a thermal cutoff at 5 minutes of 4K video capture. That's 5 minutes of 4K video that no other P&S compact can deliver. It has the best sensor in the P&S class... so good it will also be used in the Sony RX10M II ... but then you're in the megazoom size and weight. Rather than be disappointed because the new RX100 is not the new RX10... download and read the RX100 IV manual.
I now carry my new RX100M IV ... AND my Panny ZS40. The ZS40 gives the 30X zoom that you need in a travel camera (as long as there's plenty of light), and the RX100 IV replaces my Oly E-M1 when I don't want to lug around a slingpack. By Hualalai.
